Reverse Address Resolution Protocol ( RARP)-

It was designed for diskless workstations. That had no means of permanently storing TCP/IP settings. It is opposite of ARP. The ARP broadcast an IP address in order to discover its equivalent hardware. While RARP broadcast the hardware address to which the RARP server responds by transmitting the IP address assogn to that client workstation. The RARP is suitable only for diskless machines as it supplies only IP addresses and not other setting about subnet and gateways.
